Physician Captives, LLC,  a physician owned and managed third party administrator exclusively for medical malpractice captive insurance companies, understands the dynamics of the medical malpractice market that Med Mal RRG's and Captives face.   We believe that the medical malpractice insurance companies continue to be important for physicians seeking to take control of their malpractice coverage, despite the soft markets reported in some areas of the country.  We are uniquely positioned to successfully help our clients achieve their goals.

William Thompson

Physician Captives President Dr. William A. (Bill) Thompson began work in medical malpractice in 1990, when he founded and became president of TPA Captive Insurance Company. The company provided medical malpractice coverage for physicians in Thomasville, GA. At the time, Dr. Thompson was still in private practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1991, he became Medical Director of John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, and continued to practice Gynecology. He became certified in risk management and acquired an MBA degree to improve his knowledge and skills, and is a licensed claim adjuster.

Since 1990, Dr. Thompson has helped to form 5 captive insurance companies in 3 states for physician medical malpractice liability. He has extensive experience in risk management, claims management, and underwriting.  He performs these services for the existing companies, and continues to work with physician groups to form new companies.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

 

Victor (Vic) McMillan, MD

            Dr. Vic McMillan joined Physician Captives, LLC in 2003. His responsibilities include risk management, claim investigation, and underwriting assistance. He has served on the Board of TPA Captive Insurance Company since 1998 and as President since 2005. He is the Medical Director of Tift Area Captive Insurance Company in Tifton/Valdosta, GA, and also serves on the board of the Joliet Risk Retention Group.

            Dr. McMillan continues to practice as a Rheumatologist in Thomasville, GA, where he has worked since 1991. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatology.

 

Dr. Thomas (Tom) McGrath, MD

            Dr. Tom McGrath joined Physician Captives, LLC in 2005. His responsibilities include risk management, claim investigation, and underwriting assistance. He is the physician Medical Director for the Joliet Risk Retention Group in Joliet, Illinois. 

            Dr. McGrath is a native of Joliet and a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He served his internship and residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Dr. McGrath returned to Joliet after his training, where he spent 35 years as an Ob-Gyn in private practice. During this time he was active in administrative matters at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, serving as chairman of many committees, as President of the Medical Staff, and as Vice President of Medical Affairs for 2 years. He is a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

 

Nancy Forsyth

Nancy Forsyth manages our office risk management surveys and provides research and input on special risk issues. She joined Physician Captives LLC, in 2005, bringing with her 25 years of experience as a risk management professional. She has served as Director of Risk Management for St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, and as a Healthcare Administrator for the State of Florida.  Ms. Forsyth also has extensive experience as a risk management consultant. As a consultant she has developed specialized support services—including risk management, loss control, safety, JCAHO, and total quality management (TQM) programs—to meet companies’ specific needs. She has designed a full range of audits, consultations, and seminars to assist companies with organizational growth and development, reducing risk exposure, and increasing patient safety.

Ms. Forsyth graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in management and supervision, and a master’s degree in public administration, specializing in health, safety, and environmental regulations.

 

Dr. Louis Goolsby

Dr. Louis Goolsby joined Physician Captives, LLC in 2009. He is the Medical Director of Physician Managed Risk Solutions, LLC, the division for risk management for physicians employed by hospitals. He brings more than 15 years of risk management experience to the company. He has experience working with residents, faculty, and employed physicians, as well as hospitals and hospital captive insurance companies. 

As the Ob/Gyn Residency Director at Mercer University and the Medical Center in Macon, GA from 1992 to 1995, he provided resident education in risk management and worked closely with the risk management department. While serving as the Chief Medical Officer at the Medical Center of Central Georgia from 1995 to 2008, he worked with the hospital’s risk management department, managed the performance improvement department, and served on the hospital’s captive insurance board. Dr. Goolsby is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Healthcare Administration.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
